Health concerns when registering
Doctors applying to be registered in New Zealand must declare if they have ever been, or are currently, affected by a physical or mental condition or impairment with the capacity to affect their ability to perform the functions of a doctor.
Our government's law governing doctors, the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003, requires that when a doctor applies for registration, that we are satisfied that the doctor is fit for registration and fit to practise medicine. The health declaration and other performance, competence and conduct disclosures are part of this process.
